Irish Grand National 2011 Tip

We take Hughies Grey to win the Irish Grand national this year, he is on an upward curve following two successive wins including the Ulster National and looks like great value. That Ulster win at Down Patrick was over 3m 4f so we know the trip should no worries for him and a right handed track should suit. Plenty of weight to carry but could be the most progressive sort in the field.

Odds

Short priced winners are rare in the Irish Grand National, only Desert Orchid, back in 1990 could be desribed as short priced. Most winners come in between the 9/1 and 33/1 bracket, which means that the race very often offers good value for the astute punter. Check Out the Latest Odds for the 2011 Irish Grand National

Age

Horses aged between 6 and 10 usually win the Irish Grand National. Older horses tend to run out of steam when chalenged strongly by their younger rivals and younger horses tend to lack experience in such a difficult race.

Weight

Horses carrying 11st 4lb and under are the ones to look at. Anything heavier would have to be exceptional and in possible in the same league as the Irish Grand National legends, Arkle and Desert Orchid.

Form

Horses that have shown good recent form, at least a top four finish, in the few weeks leading up to the race is worth a close look. It could be that the horse has been laid out for the race and is coming into form at just the right time for the Fairyhouse race on Easter Monday. 2011 Irish Grand National Form
